Your base
Westerland
The island's main town, home of the station, and the only place with a promenade worthy of the name. What lies right outside the door.
With around 9,000 residents, Westerland is the largest town on Sylt and the island's arrival hub: the Marschbahn railway terminates here, the car train arrives here, and every bus route starts here.
It is not a thatched fishing village — that is Keitum. Westerland is a spa town with post-war architecture, a shopping street, and the widest beach on the island. If you want short distances, this is where to stay.
Im Ort
Was fußläufig liegt.
- Beach promenade and bandstand
- The promenade runs for several kilometres along the beach. The bandstand hosts concerts in summer and is a good place to watch the wind in winter.
- Friedrichstraße
- Westerland's shopping street, a good four hundred metres from the apartment. From here the routes lead on to the town hall square and the station.
- Sylter Welle
- A seawater leisure pool right on the promenade, looking out over the North Sea. The answer to three days of steady rain.
- Syltness Center
- Thalasso and health centre on the beach, a little over a kilometre away. Seawater treatments, sauna, spa.
- Sylt Aquarium
- A North Sea aquarium on the promenade. Small, but exactly right for an afternoon of bad weather.
- Westerland station
- Around 950 metres from the apartment. Important if you arrive without a car: all island buses depart from here.
Location
Right on the dune ridge
The apartment sits directly on the dune ridge with its own beach crossing, in a quiet position. It is roughly a hundred metres from the building to the beach.
The shopping streets of Westerland are a few minutes on foot, the nearest supermarket about six hundred metres away. Westerland station is around 950 metres — relevant if you arrive by train or by car train.
